k̓m̓qin̓ - Headwaters

k̓m̓qin̓ Headwaters is the Slocan Valley Housing Society’s (SVHS) newest affordable housing development located in the Village of Slocan. We are expecting it to be ready for tenants to move in by March of 2027. If you wish to be notified when we begin taking applications, click here.  

This housing complex is centrally located across from WE Graham Community School, a short walk to groceries, post office and Slocan Lake. 

It will have 10 units of affordable housing in two townhouse buildings. There will be three, two and one-bedroom units. Two of the 3-bedroom units and two of the one-bedroom units will be adapted to be accessible for people using wheelchairs. All apartments have direct outside access. 

All of the units will have on-site parking for one vehicle and have either a patio or a balcony. All units have standard appliances, including laundry. They will have heat pumps to provide cooling in summer and assist with heating in winter.  

K̓m̓qin̓ Headwaters provides housing for families, seniors and people with disabilities.  Your family income and size determine what rent you will pay and what size unit you will be eligible for.   

Some apartments are subsidized for lower income tenants. Generally, tenants that are eligible for subsidy pay 30% of their income for rent. Apartments are also available at rents that are set at the low end of what a similar apartment would rent for in the private market. They provide stable, comfortable, well-maintained housing for people who can afford to pay market rent.   

Often people are curious about the criteria for tenancy at k̓m̓qin̓ Headwaters. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and have lived in BC for the last 6 months. We do place importance on a person’s ties to the Slocan Valley, family, and friends. However, that is not the sole criteria. We also consider need, health, and other factors. Most importantly, a person must be able to live independently in our units. Of course, as with other renters anywhere, they can bring in home support or other support workers at their own cost.
