Outreach for Seniors at Passmore Lodge!
Starting Monday Oct 21st, 2024

Programs made possible through the CBT ReDi grants in RDCK Area H.

Slocan Valley Housing Society is pleased to announce that in-person Outreach programming is once again being offered at Passmore Lodge.

We welcome back Gayle Buchner, Amy Heasman and Tyson Bartel.

Schedule of Events:

  • Mondays 10:00am: Seniors Fitness - Balance Boards

    • Gayle Buchner returns at 10 am each Monday (except holidays) to help participants work with this fitness tool. Participants stand on the Balance Board while performing exercises to help improve balance, posture, aid in rehabilitation, prevent lower body injuries, and increase core strength, among other benefits. Sessions are 1 hour long.

  • Wednesdays 10:00am: Gentle Yoga

    • Amy Heasman returns each Wednesday at 10 am with Gentle Yoga which is perfect for first-time users or those wishing a softer approach. In this class, gentle yoga poses are combined with breathing exercises and restorative postures to stretch and strengthen the body, reduce stress and calm the mind. This is a supportive environment and no experience is necessary. Sessions are 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

  • Thursdays 10:00am: Seniors Fitness - Self Lead

    • We have a dynamic group of seniors that turn on the music and follow an exercise routine to better health. Through shared movement and lots of laughs this self lead group brings energy to the building! Sessions are 1 hour long.

  • Thursdays 11:15am: Feldenkrais - Awareness through Movement

    • Back from virtual presentations, Tyson Bartel will lead "in-person" Feldenkrais sessions each Thursday at 11:15 am. Feldenkrais uses your own body's awareness and attention to stimulate the brain, creating new neural pathways to enable optimal movement patterns and function. As you learn better way to move, you experience improvements in balance, breathing, coordination, flexibility, cognition and outlook. Sessions are 1 hour long.

Our yoga instructor Amy Heasman, will be teaching the Gentle & Restorative Yoga classes on Wednesday.  Amy was born & raised in East London, UK.  300hr Yoga Teacher, Self-Empowerment Guide, Entrepreneur & Musician with over 15+ years of experience. She now lives & plays amongst the natural beauty of the Kootenays, Canada. Yoga has expanded her entire belief system to enable her to show up with more compassion, humility, respect and most importantly laughter. Mindful & empowering practices provide us with tools to connect with and integrate the deeper layers of ourselves. With greater awareness comes presence, with presence comes intention and with intention comes the natural ability to align with our true intuitive guidance. Amy’s affinity with music has also evolved into her offerings. She believes sound & vocal vibrations have the capacity to heal the unheard parts of us. It builds clear communication,  removes stagnant energy & opens our energetic centres to call in more self-respect, authenticity & purpose. She teaches Hatha Flow, Gentle Flow, Embodied Yin & Restorative yoga.

Tyson Bartel has been offering Thai massage and teaching yoga for over 25 years. With almost 30 years of practice guiding him, Tyson has been developing a wholistic form of physical therapy he calls Somatic Bodywork Therapy, based on connecting directly with the brain and nervous system through touch and guided movement explorations.

He studied meditation and Thai massage in Thailand and yoga in India from 1992-94. A certified Feldenkrais teacher since 2001, he works intentionally with the brain and nervous system in his individual hands on Functional Integration sessions and in his style of Thai massage.

Tyson is grateful for all his teachers and students, knowing we are all here to share our unique gifts for the higher good of all our relations.  His intention is to allow Life Energy to guide him to help others discover conscious, loving embodiment as key to wellness. He knows that when we return to a felt sense of embodiment the brain & nervous system move more into a self regulated state that over time resolves many of the imbalances behind poor health.
